A Chatbot Making it Easier to Report Sexual Assault

Conviction rates for sexual assault are at an all-time low, with 55.96% of cases are often hampered by lack of evidence.

After going through this process myself when I was sexually assaulted on the Victoria line, I realised that the need for ultra-specific details was likely to be a chokepoint in investigations not just in my case but many more. I did lots of research into the effects of trauma on memory and the humane tech movement. I wanted to create a solution that made use of the meta-data collecting, timestamp knowing devices in everyones pocket. Humans are terrible at remembering the kinds of details a police investigation depends on, but phones are excellent at it.

After doing the chatbot workshop from feminist internet, I created a chatbot prototype that asks the important questions. The chat history becomes a timestamped document with when, where and who. People are not required to report anything, but if they want to, they’ll have all the details ready to go.
